Based on the results of a study carried out by Dr. Beatriz Marcheco, director of the National Center for Medical Genetics, based in this capital, the filming of the six stories has already been completed.

In exclusive statements to Prensa Latina, the filmmaker explained that ADN Cuba followed a new path in research on Cuban identity, ancestors and the future of the cultural and racial identity of our population.

The six-episode series stars popular personalities from Cuban civil society: the singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez, the plastic artist Roberto Diago, the volleyball player Mirella Luis, the actor Osvaldo Doimeadiós, the researcher Zuleika Romay, and the anthropologist Nelson Aboy.

At the same time, Gil is making progress in preparing the filming of Stevenson, a movie about the legendary Cuban boxer Teófilo Stevenson, one of the most admired and respected sports figures on the Caribbean island.

Regarding his interest in filming this feature film, the artist commented that he has been a sports fan since he was a child, and that he studied at the Escuela de Iniciación Deportiva Escolar, where Stevenson was an idol.

“In addition, few films about sports have been made in Cuba, and I think it will be interesting,” he said.

He reported that the future feature film is in the casting process and the actors who will bring the boxer’s friends, family and rivals to the big screen are being sought.

He indicated that the possibilities of participation in the film by studios and film companies from Mexico and Russia are still being reviewed, both in logistical and sporting terms.

According to Gil, one of the main sources for the conception of the script is the biographical book “Grande entre los grandes” by Manolo Cabalé, which was very useful in getting an insight into Stevenson’s sporting relationships.

“To represent the character of coach Alcides Segarra, who is practically a protagonist, I will use the interviews he gave to the press,” he stressed.

He added that a large part of the film is set in the most critical moments of the Cold War and that the graphics and music of the 70s and 80s of the last century will play a very important role in it, while songs from the Cuban groups Los Van Van and Irakere will be part of its soundtrack.

“We must begin filming in the month of October and it is planned to portray the boxer’s international career, and his championships in the Olympic Games, where he was a three-time winner,” he added.

Recently, Alejandro Gil participated as a guest at the 28th edition of the Frankfurt Film Festival, in Germany, where he presented his films Línea Roja (2016), Inocencia (2018), and AM PM (2023), which received positive evaluations from the criticism.
