After the month-on-month rebound they had experienced in May, Car sales fell again in June. The patents amounted to 29,878 units, 25.5% less than in the same month of 2023 and 14.1% below the May recordaccording to statistics released by the Association of Automotive Dealers of the Argentine Republic (Acara).

In the first semester, Vehicle sales were 182,399 units, 22.6% less than in the same period in 2023in which they had registered 235,785 vehicles.

In June 2023, meanwhile, 40,112 units had been sold (hence the 25.5% drop compared to June this year), and in May, 34,797.

June was a unique month for the automotive industry, with plants shut down for several days due to a lack of supplies following flooding in southern Brazil, among other factors that affected the number of patent applications.

Regarding the statistics, the president of Acara, Sebastián Beato, analyzed: “The drop in inflation and the upward trend of the dollar have made people come to dealerships, mainly in the second half of the month. When opportunities appear, demand appears, that is why we have been saying that the market has changed and that now we have to go out in search of customers, and that is what we are doing. Today, thanks to the enormous effort we are making from the value chain, there are discounts, bonuses and credits at a subsidized rate, or even at a zero rate, and that has allowed us to maintain a level of activity that makes the operation viable in the first half of the year.”

The Fiat Cronos came second in June

The manager added: “We hope to continue adding incentive measures from the provincial and national states so that we can complete an acceptable year and begin to project the next one with sustained growth.”

By model, the sales ranking was led for the second consecutive month by the Toyota Hilux, which registered 2,276 units. Second was the former monthly leader, the Fiat Cronos, with 1,990; and third was the Peugeot 208, which registered 1,893 units.

The ranking of the top 10 was this way:

In June, the rebound in imported cars was consolidated -mainly from Brazil-, which have been recovering ground after falling to their minimum participation levels in 2023. In the first half, Domestically manufactured models accounted for 62% of the registrations, and Brazilian ones, 29%.

In the same period in 2023, those percentages had been 64 and 28%, respectively.

In the ranking of brands, Toyota led in June, with 6,420 patented units, followed by Volkswagen (4,824) and Fiat (3,099). In the first semester, the three automakers maintain that order in the accumulated.
