It is a huge bronze sculpture, six meters high, and that bears the name “Angels without knowing it” and was inaugurated by the Argentine on September 29, 2019 the Migrant and Refugee Day.

BEEN: This is the experience of listening to the “Habemus Papam” in person, or in I imagined it so

It was designed by Canadian artist Timothy Schmalz and represents 140 people made a fist in a small boat, the sad reality of so many thousands of people who must leave their homes not because they want. They are migrants from different eras, cultures and places. There are African slaves, Jews persecuted by Nazism and even displaced Syrian or Latin Americans.

And it was Pope Francis himself who wanted him to be in the Plaza de San Pedro, in the heart of Catholicism, so that the world always has it in front of his eyes.

“I wanted this here in the Plaza de San Pedro to remind everyone of the evangelical challenge of hospitality,” he said during the inauguration. And he reinforced the message with another phrase that has become motto of his pontificate: “It’s not just about migrants: it’s about our humanity.”

And what makes the Pope’s gesture bigger is that it is the sculpture placed in that place in 400 years.
