The governor of the capital, Jorge Macri, dedicated part of his inauguration speech to the Supreme Pontiff, of Argentine origin, who died last Monday at 88 years of age:
«We live very particular days, the departure of Pope Francis touches us deeply. In this farewell climate I think that remembering it in its simplicity, but also in the greatness of a spiritual leader, allows us to dimension its legacy, ”he said.
He stressed that “in addition to pastor and guide, Francisco was a man of letters. In an interview he said that without literature, music, we become dried fruits, instruments without heart. His humanistic gaze is part of that legacy that we want to keep,” said the politician.
The International Book Fair of Buenos Aires, whose organizers present as the largest in the Hispanic world, will take place until May 12 at the La Rural Fairgrounds that has an area of more than 45 thousand square meters
during its almost three weeks they visit, in general, more than one million readers and more than twelve thousand book professionals.
-On the way to its 50th anniversary as a cultural event, the Fair proposes innovations and a program that adds more than 1,500 activities with the purpose of reflecting the diversity and wealth of contemporary literature, its organizers stand out.
In his speech, the governor also announced the realization of a comic book Biennial and the first meeting of writing journalists in Buenos Aires, called “Urgent.” In addition, this winter, the city will illuminate its cultural and architectural heritage in the “Festival of Light” that will take place during the weekend of the longest nights.
Riad, capital of Saudi Arabia, is the guest city of honor in this edition of the Fair.
The intervention in the opening of the Minister of Culture, Leonardo Cifelli, was not happy, and although he wanted to “leave behind” the political friction that last year did not attend the inauguration, the public booed him, especially when he appointed President Javier Milei and his sister Karina Milei, whom the Argentines identify as the real “boss” in the Casa Rosada.
