The smile of sharks is the first work of the scientist Marina Gádor Muntaner, who debuts in the literature with a book that is at the same time a declaration of love of the ocean and a beautiful defense of marine life. Muntaner’s first book, edited by Planet, combines personal stories, scientific anecdotes and reflections on the importance of protecting marine ecosystems and, especially, sharks.
The author immerses us in a story that covers from her first encounter with a shark in the Maldives to expeditions on Guadalupe Island or the Arctic and shares experiences that feed the fascination by the sea and its creatures. The work achieves a good balance between scientific dissemination and personal narration. Muntaner combines the collection of data on sharks (more than five hundred known species, many still to be discovered) dotted with personal experiences, arguing how sharks are essential for human life and that their conservation is a worldwide need.
Gádor Muntaner, born in Barcelona in 1991, changed the pharmacy career for the Sea Sciences to the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, specialized in the study of sharks in Mexico and has participated in research projects on the movements of the Punta Silver Shark and the impact of pollutants on the white shark.
