Five years after the start of the pandemic for COVID-19, which forever transformed the work world, Google is hardening its position against remote work.
According to CNBCseveral divisions of the company began to demand that employees return to the office at least three times a week, or are attented to consequences, which include forced relocation, compensation for departure or dismissal.
The new approach, confirmed by company spokesmen and internal sources, is affecting various areas of technology, such as the Departments of Technical Services and People Management (People Operations).
In these cases, workers who refuse to adopt the hybrid model will have to leave the company, unless they live more than 80 kilometers from a headquarters, in which case they can keep their current remote mode, although with restrictions on future internal applications.
“As we have said before, face -to -face collaboration is an important part of how we innovate and solve complex problems,” said Courtney Mencini, Google spokesman.

Not to do so, compensation for exit, and eventually, dismissal is activated.
While in people management, remote workers have until the end of this month to accept the new conditions or leave their positions.
In addition, Google offered voluntary resignations to its full -time staff within platforms and devices – devision that includes Android, Chrome, Fitbit and Nest – and, since this month, almost two dozen equipment has been dissolved.
The company closed 2024 with 183,000 employees, a 3.6% drop compared to the 190,000 in 2022.
After mass layoffs in 2023, the priority is to channel resources towards the development of infrastructure and talent in artificial intelligence, an industry that requires millionaire investments and first -level technical capacity.
