In the anteroom of the environmental challenge that the world has in focal industries such as food and drinks, and in the face of a zero emission future that guarantees both the quality of life of future generations and the ecosystem we inhabit, refrigeration and preservation has played a determining role, being this an important source of emissions in retail trade.
Given this challenge, the Corona beer company, one of the companies with the greatest impact and longevity in Mexico (this year celebrates a century of existence), recently presented its most recent innovation in terms of ecological cooling under the name of Natural Corona Freezers, the result of three years of collaboration with Nanofreez, startup with the potential to revolutionize one of the most important points of the supply chain: Refrigeration.
During the presentation of this solution that unites science, sustainability, economic impact and brand experience, which in addition to cooling beer efficiently also helps the planet, the company said that this technology is simple, scalable and high impact.
The event, which was attended by Felipe Ambra, marketing VP of the company, Diana Paola Camacho Sarmiento, founder and development manager at Nano Freeze in addition to Yune Aranguren, director of brands Core and Alejandro Gutierrez, VP of DTC in Grupo Model CPG to adopt an electric load flotilla in Latin America, reduce the use of water 28%, in addition to infiltrating more than six million square meters of water in aquifers in the country.
“In Grupo Model we seek to validate and share the technology of Natural Freezers in Open-Source form, so that more companies that depend on the sale of refrigerated products can adopt it. In this way, we could reach an economy of scale that allows us to reach the thousands of refrigerators already installed in the global market,” said Felipe Ambra, vice president of Marketing in Grupo Model.
Behind Nano Freeze inhabits a natural refrigeration system based on bionanotechnology, which reduces energy consumption by up to 30% and keeps the cold for a longer time (up to five hours in a controlled environment without the need for an external source of energy), in addition to being biodegradable, it is safe and can be adapted to current refrigerators.

For its initial implementation in the national market, Grupo Modelo plans to expand Natural Freezers to more than 50 Modeloramas in Mexico City, its chain of stores specialized in beer, ensuring that more points of sale in Mexico benefit from this innovation.
“We have been working on this innovation since 2020, when it began as part of the Accelerator 100+ program, where we had the opportunity to launch our cooling gel technology and add to actions in favor of the environment. With this solution, which adapts to any refrigerator, we are contributing to reduce the carbon footprint already reduce considerably energy consumption,” said Paola Camacho Sarmiento, founder and development manager of Nano Freeze.
Corona estimates that this solution can impact both the economic growth of business and the environment, helping to impact operating spending, which 30% is due to the refrigeration item, in addition to extending the useful life of the equipment.
“Model and Corona Group celebrate this year a century of history, a legacy based on vision, innovation and a strong commitment to quality, sustainability and national production. Throughout the years, we have consolidated as a symbol of Mexican pride, and we will continue to position Mexico as a reference in the beer industry. Today we have more reasons to provide for the next hundred years,” the Grupo Modelo managers concluded.
Corona is clear that we only have one planet, and the opportunity to take care of it depends solely on our actions. Therefore, the rector axis of Natural Freezers is summarized in a simple but powerful phrase: the cooling is expensive and the planet is heating, and should not.
