The Mexican influencer Guadalupe Villalobos, known as Lupita ‘Tiktok’ faces a heartbreaking situation that has captured the attention of thousands of people on social networks.
His newborn daughter, Karely Yamileth, was emergency hospitalized at the Maternal Child Regional Hospital in Monterrey, Nuevo León, due to serious health complications.
His partner, Ricardo Medellín, also the girl’s father, revealed that doctors would study the baby to rule out or check if he has brain death, generating a wave of speculation, support and controversy around the case.
What is brain death?
According to the medline specialized medium, brain death is an irreversible medical condition in which the brain, including the brainstem, ceases all activity permanently.
The brain trunk is the region responsible for controlling vital functions such as breathing, heart rate and consciousness and when they stop, the body cannot survive without artificial support, such as a respirator.
In neonates and infants, the most common causes of brain death include perinatal suffocation, serious infections (such as meningitis), congenital malformations, cranial trauma or surgical complications.
In babies, developing brain is especially vulnerable, and damage such as lack of oxygen can cause irreversible injuries in minutes, which makes immediate medical attention crucial.
The diagnosis of brain death requires specific tests, such as electroencephalograms (EEG) to measure brain electrical activity or cerebral blood flow studies.
In the case of Karely, Ricardo Medellín, the baby’s father, explained that doctors would conduct a study with “plaquitas” to verify if the “stripes” (brain activity) were flat, which would indicate brain death.
What happened to Lupita ‘Tiktok’ baby?
Lupita Tiktok gave birth to Karely Yamileth on April 16, 2025 through caesarean section. According to Ricardo Medellín, the baby presented complications from birth, but was discharged after six days of observation, with the indication that “everything was fine.”
However, days later, Karely showed worrying symptoms such as high fever, negative to feed and seizures, which led to his emergency re -entry on April 27. The initial reports indicated that, allegedly the minor suffered from meningitis, neonatal dehydration, hyperbilirubinemia (jaundice), urinary infection and possible renal failure, conditions that required immediate attention.
After days of uncertainty, Lupita Tiktok broke the silence on the night of April 30, 2025, offering a hopeful update about her daughter’s health. In a meeting with the press on the outskirts of the Maternal Child Hospital, the influencer revealed that both she and Ricardo Medellín could see Karely.
“He is already improving, he is recovering from his health. We are praying for her all day and all night,” said Lupita, visibly excited and on the edge of crying. He added that both prayed for the early recovery of their daughter, showing a message of faith and optimism.
Lupita’s manager, James Flores, also shared on April 30, through Instagram, that the baby was “stable”, contradicting previous reports of brain death. Flores emphasized that there was still no definitive diagnosis of brain death, and the family was still waiting for a “miracle” for Karely recovery.
