Lando Norris won on Saturday a Sprint race of the Miami Grand Prix full of rain and accidents, in a double for McLaren, to reduce to nine points the advantage of his teammate Oscar Piastri in the pilot championship of Formula One.
Lewis Hamilton de Ferrariwinner of the first sprint of the season in China, he smiled again at the end third, in a test in which the security car led the last laps before retiring at the end.
“My luck in Miami seems quite good at this time, I am really happy,” said a smiling Norris, who won last year’s race in Miami to add his first victory in F1.
The British was lucky with the security car jumping to the scene at the right time, when entering boxes to put smooth tires, when Piastri had already stopped, and still came out again with the leadership he had inherited.
Max Verstappenfrom Red Bull, received a penalty of 10 seconds for an exit that caused a collision in boxes with the pilot of Mercedes Kimi Antonelli, when the Italian entered and the champion left.
That left the four times world champion in the last place of those who saw the checkered flag. Antonelli ended tenth.
Charles Leclercfrom Ferrari, crashed while heading from the output grill because of a strong spray that made the conditions dangerous, and could not start.
The security car led the race before the starting procedure was suspended, with the pilots with problems to see, and the 19 cars returned to boxes before an eventual exit on a track that was drying.
Carlos Sainz crashed his Williams and Fernando Alonso crashed into the wall after contact with Racing Bull by Liam Lawson.
“I did practically all well. It disappointed me a bit second, but it is sometimes things. The races are a pretty cruel business,” said Piastri, who will look for his third consecutive victory on Sunday.
Alex Albon finished fourth, but under investigation for a possible false exit, with George Russell of Mercedes Quinto and Lance Stroll Sixth for Aston Martin.
Lawson was seventh, ahead of the haasOllie Bearman, who added the last point in dispute at the Sprint.
