At 6:00 on May 7, the price of gold today in the international market reached 3,396 USD/ounce, an increase of USD 46 compared to the lowest level of the negotiation session last night of 3,350 USD/ounce.
Gold prices continued going up today thanks to the strong demand for gold in the Chinese market, especially by retailers. The Shanghai Gold Stock Exchange recorded a record volume of operations, which reflects the tendency to accumulate gold as a safe asset amid the world economic and commercial uncertainty.
The depreciation of the US dollar also contributed to the increase in gold prices, since gold normally has an inverse relationship with the US dollar. As the dollar depreciates, gold becomes more attractive to investors that use other currencies.
Meanwhile, US stock market rates fell and the feeling of risk aversion increased due to lack of progress in the global commercial war. This makes gold a safe investment channel.
In Vietnam, as of May 6, the price quoted with gold SJC was 122.2 million VND/Tael (sale price), while the price of gold rings reached 118 million VND/Tael.
