He Panama Canal He performed a fire drill aboard a tank ship to test the response capacities and protocols of their units in case of emergency.
The exercise, carried out in collaboration with the Panama Fire Department, It was carried out on a ship with a total length of 250 meters and a 44 -meter sleeve, docked at the Pacific Terminal of Panama Bay.
This drill was led by personnel from the Canal’s fire section and other operational units to evaluate inter -institutional collaboration and ensure that all procedures are executed efficiently and coordinated.
-Omar Vanterpool, manager of the Fire Department of the CanalHe explained that “this drill aims to integrate firefighters, the division of tugs, the ship’s crew, protection of the channel and our colleagues of the Benemérito Fire Department of Panama in this joint effort to mitigate this type of emergencies and maintain a safe, sustainable and reliable river route for world trade.”
Carlos Gómez, a fire protection specialist in the channel, emphasized that “a fire on a ship implies a series of coordinated emergency responses that require the participation of multiple channel entities. It goes beyond firefighters, and there lies precisely the importance of this simulation.”
Approximately 70 people participated in the year, including firefighters, boat units personnel, tugboat operators and others, along with an evaluators team to maximize the benefits of exercise.
Previously, the Canal Protection and Emergency Care Division notified other State Security and Emergency Institutions to keep them informed about the development of the exercise.
With the execution of this drill, the Panama Canal reaffirms its commitment to security and preparation, contributing to the well -being of the Panamanian population and the sustainable development of the region.
