Between April 27 and 30 he was at the University of Playa Ancha, the senior researcher of the Center for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) of the University of Leiden, Rodrigo Costaswithin the framework of scientific collaboration between the Dutch institution and the Team of Advanced Technologies “Platforms of scientific metadata for collaboration in R & D & I (IT24i0145), which leads the Data Science Laboratory of the Faculty of Engineering.
There were several activities carried out by Rodrigo Costas with the research teams of the IT24i0145 and the Ines Open Science, directed by the Dr. Miguel Guevara Albornozand with the community in general, one of them was the conference “Cienciometry, alternative metrics and the multiverse of science”.
Regarding the central theme, the exhibitor stated that scientometry relates it to understanding and studying science rather than evaluating or ranking this discipline, especially when times have changed and needs to rethink the role of metric and scientometry, since it has great potential to understand scientific dynamics and support high -level decision making, referring to political formulation and scientific diplomacy.
The position of Rodrigo Costas It is related to mixing the characteristics of the quantitative and qualitative analysis to have a more reflective scientometry that allows a better decision -making, which would provide data evidence, statistics that allow developing a diagnosis for decision making.

This last point is related to Barcelona’s declaration on open information, a social demand launched in April 2024, in which academic organizations are proposed to accept certain commitments.
-One of them is the use of open data, this will allow those who do research and the groups of faculties can interact with the data to understand their operation, management and planning of information in decision making.
“What I would like to see in the future, are more academic managers: librarians, people interested in the use of psychometric data that feel with the confidence and with the assurance that they can work with them on a large scale and benefit,” said the specialist at the University of Leiden.
The proposal that one has, explained, is to develop new analytical frameworks in the context of cold science, to encourage inclusion, diversity and pluralism, which will allow having a more reflective and inclusive perspective of how the scientific system works, instead of trying to reduce it to universal indicators.
