Adria Arjona (Puerto Rico, 1992) arrived at the galaxy very, far away with a negligible curriculum. when Tony Girloy Bix Caleen’s character, the childhood and ex -boyfriend friend of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) in the first season of Andor, The Latin interpreter was already known among the public.
Had participated in acclaimed series as True Detective (2015), Narcos (2015) y good Omens (2019), had starred Emerald City (2017) in the role of Dorothy and had entered the moving sands of the great productions in Pacific Rim: Insurrection (2018), Triple frontera (2019) o Morbius (2022).
Three years later, Andor He returns with his second and last season, which will address the four years that separate the first installment of the beginning of Rogue One: A Star Wars story (2016). In all this time, Hollywood has surrendered to Arjona’s talent, which has chained titles held in a small and big screen as Irma Vep (2022), Hit Man. Killer by chance (2023) o Flash twice (2024).
When we interviewed it for Andor Through Zoom, he is close, fun and smiling. He speaks with a genuine and contagious illusion of his career, of the creators who have directed it, of his galactic journey. He assures that he has cost goodbye to Bix; Luckily, his name already flashes in the cinema firmament without the need for force.
The second season of Andor It covers four years in the life of the protagonists. What can we expect from Bix’s trip? How has it been to interpret it in different stages?
I can’t tell you anything and it’s very difficult because I can’t keep secrets [ríe]. The last season is divided into four blocks that show a small time of one year in the lives of these characters. It was super difficult as an actress to find those different nuances in Bix because one changes in a year, but the change is not so drastic and you do not want to do it too obvious or too subtle.
Normally, in the movies we jumped 5 or 10 years and it is much easier because there you know, there are physical and emotional changes, but here it was very difficult to find those mini transformations. I focused on the traumas or events that lead to the character. We meet Bix a year after he suffered the torture of Dr. Gord (Joshua James) and we will see how he has affected him, the consequences of trauma over time.

Leia, Padmé, Ahsoka … What does Bix add to this family of powerful women from Star Wars?
What I like about her is that she is someone normal, working class. Andor It is about people making difficult decisions and I admire Bix for his, it is much more brave than me. It also represents Latin women. During the premiere of the first season, I saw a follower disguised as my character, who had only briefly left in a trailer. I broke up when he told me: “Finally a Latin in Star Wars”.
Rosario Dawson had not yet released Ahsoka, So that comment moved me a lot. As a fan of Star Wars, I can’t believe myself to hire Diego and me. Luckily, Tony [Gilroy] He does not think how Hollywood’s typical person does not need to balance a Latin with a gringo.
Is it true that Tony chose you in 6 minutes for this series?
Yeah! The auditions are a process: you do them, you wait anxious days, nobody tells you anything, you cry because you think they have not taken you and you have no job, insecurity arrives … but Tony told me: “It’s you.” No protocols or “I have to talk to Disney and Lucasfilm.” It was very intelligent because, from that moment, I trusted him 100%. He was the first to believe in me and if he tells me not to do a project, I don’t.

You assure that bix es a character who has cost you goodbye. How was the last day of filming?
I got into trouble because I tattooed. I was on the set and my makeup artist made me a tattoo in honor of Bix with needle and ink. For the rest, I had to roll one of my first scenes this season and I couldn’t stop crying, it cost me a lot. Tony was there, Diego was there, everyone was there seeing me act and I was nervous, crying. It was a super emotional day.
Bix is a character that has cost me a lot to leave, this is a universe that I appreciate a lot and was very sad. I asked Tony: “Why not another season? We are going to do another, are we going to do another.” But he is absolutely right and format this season is very intelligent. The public will be impressed with how big this second season is.
Hit man, flashes twice … You ensure not to be as brave as Bix, but they have combined Star Wars With less commercial titles.
Tony has taught me that when you choose projects you choose a team. Choosing intelligent creators, who take risks, who have perspective, who have a voice, is super important because many of our cultural references, stereotypes arrive through films. That is why I do not consider Hit Man y Flash twice A risk. Zoë Kravitz has a very specific vision as director, did not seem her first film.
In 2025 10 years of the premiere of the second season of True Detective, that opened the doors of Hollywood.
10 years?! Five, friend. Five ago [bromea].
Let’s obviate the number, it seems good to me. Since then, you have eluded the dreaded typecasting in the Mecca of the cinema. How have you done it?
I am not very strategic, but I get bored quickly and that’s why I look for different characters. In my beginnings, as Latin actress, I was going to be the hard aunt or the sexy girl, but gender fiction saved me. I could teach what I am capable of in The Belko Experiment (2016), my first Hollywood film.
After seeing me in it, Neil Gaiman gave me an extravagant character, nerd, in Good Omens (2019) and I am very nerd even if it seems. In Andor, Tony entrusted me with hard aunt, but with a turn. And Richard Linklater exploded my fun side. I have had some luck and directors who have believed in me and my ideas.
