Transport platforms such as Uber have generated debate since its implementation in Chile. Two years after the approval of the law that regulates its operation, the Comptroller General of the Republic (CRG) has validated the regulation that will allow it to be officially launched.
This regulation brings with it a series of modifications that will impact both drivers and users. Among the most relevant changes is the requirement of a specific type of license for those who handle vehicles associated with these applications. It is important to note that Law 21,553, that regulates transport application companies (EAT) And it is commonly known as Uber Law, It will begin to govern 30 days after its publication in the Official Gazette.
License required for Uber drivers in Chile
As established in the regulations, application drivers such as Uber must have a class A2 license, the same required for taxis, ambulances and transport vehicles of up to 17 passengers. They will have a period of 12 months from the entry into force of the law to obtain it.
In addition, they may not register criminal records for traffic crimes, sexual crimes or drug trafficking. They must also register in the National Registry of Passenger Transport Services, carry out a training course on road safety, customer service and current regulations, and carry a badge with a QR code that shows its name, photography and the app for which they work.
