Concern exists among the families that inhabit the traditional Palafitos de Castro – in the Los Lagos region – after Navy notifications will begin to receive again for alleged illegal use of the coastal edge in sectors under the administration of the Ministry of Defense.
The president of the Social and Cultural Group Palafitos Pedro Montt first sector, Waleska Díaz, said that in the notices Residents are suggested to request a maritime concession to regularize their situationfor which the maritime authority “will proceed with what is stipulated in the aforementioned legal bodies.”
However, Díaz recalled that for years families have requested domain titles, which would allow them to access state benefits and face high maintenance costs that implies living in these structures, instead of a maritime concession. So far They do not have a legal document that proves that they own these places.
Waiting for a solution, Díaz said they continue working to achieve resources or projects that allow executing maintenance in the palafitos. To do this, A cadastre was performed that excludes hotels, restaurants and hostels, and with special emphasis on families that have lived for years.
Meeting with Delegate and Serviu
In that same context, families will meet Tuesday with the presidential delegate
Paulina Muñoz and representatives of the Housing and Urbanization Service. The neighbors request that economic support be delivered through a subsidy to maintain the piles that support these buildings, as pointed out by the delegate of Chiloé, Marcelo Malaga.
According to the history collected, there would be about 165 families that inhabit these places in the Pedro Montt 1 and 2, Lillo and Gamboa sectors, which are a fundamental part of the characteristic postcards of tourism in Chiloé.
