In the last Council of Ministers, President Gustavo Petro announced that he wants to change the administration, which today works under concession, of the ports of Colombia. “In the ports the decision I have is to completely change your administration, even with bills”said the president.
According to the President of the Republic, “The ports must radically have another administrationbecause they have been co -opted by drug traffickers and their other face, which are the smugglers. This action has to deploy as immediately as possible. We are analyzing legal issues”.
In addition, he indicated that in destinations such as Buenaventura, Cartagena, Barranquilla or Santa Marta is recorded “a violence that seems to be more articulated to political groups, like a kind of new paramilitarism. ”
The administration of El Dorado International Airport was also threatened by Petro. “To this day the ports are co -opted. I would dare to extend this to the biggest port, because the increase in homicide in Bogotá has to do with the increase in illegal activities using the airport, ”said the president.
The president also ordered the Minister of Transportation a restructuring of the Superintendence of Transportation. “The Superintendency that exists in the Ministry of Transportation, Minister, has to change. It does not mostly around the control of the merchandise passage, and the way the country has been handled, with Polfa, Fiscal and Customs Police, and with the Dian, it seems to me that they have failed, ”said the president.
Law 1 of 1991 is what allows port terminals to operate under the concession model. In the regulations, the general superintendence of ports was created as a regulatory entity and, since then, there has been no threat against the model that the Government of César Gaviria began in the nineties as the one set out by Petro yesterday.
