In 2022, the Ministry of Transport issued two fundamental technical regulations that establish a series of requirements for motorcycles that are assembled or imported to the country. These regulatory provisions introduce new demands, particularly related to the brake system and tires, with the purpose of improving the safety conditions of these vehicles.
One of the regulations is resolution 20223040065305 of 2022, which defines the technical requirements they must meet The pneumatic tires intended for use in motorcycles. Although this resolution was issued in 2022, its entry into force has been postponed three times. According to the most recent decision of the Ministry of Transportation, announced on April 29, 2025, this regulation will begin to rule on September 2, 2025.
For its part, resolution 20223040062115 of 2022 establishes the requirements applicable to motorcycle brake systems. This Regulation will enter into force in October 2025. Both documents constitute the only technical regulations currently in force in Colombia that regulate specific motorcycle safety components.
Given the imminent entry into force of these regulations, it is pertinent to clarify that the established provisions apply exclusively to new motorcycles that are assembled or imported to the country from the aforementioned dates. Consequently, motorcycles that are already registered and in circulation within the national territory will not be subject to these new demands.

Nor has any restriction been established for the motorcycle operation already enrollednor is there a replacement or modification obligation by its current owners. Therefore, it is incorrect to affirm that, from 2025, some motorcycles will be disabled to circulate as a result of the entry into force of these regulations.

These regulations are directed exclusively to manufacturers, assemblies and importers that market units new in the country. Its purpose is to ensure that, from now on, motorcycles that enter the Colombian market comply with more rigorous technical standards in safety. The retroactive application of these measures to previously enrolled vehicles is not contemplated.
In this context, current users should not make modifications to their motorcyclesnor adopt additional measures regarding the State or operation of the technical components regulated by these standards. The intention of the Ministry of Transport is to strengthen safety standards in the industry, without affecting the rights or conditions of use of existing motorcycle owners.
