During the event of delivery of rural property titles in Tibú, Norte de Santander, President Petro broke the agenda to launch a direct criticism of the outgoing director of Social Prosperity, Gustavo Bolívar.
The president’s statements happened after Bolívar took the floor before the public to mention the pension bonus that the Government offered to older adults in the Catatumbo. His resignation had already been announced weeks ago to aspire to the candidacy of the Historical Pact for the 2026 elections.
“Already those who resigned, resigned. And you can’t confuse that,” Petro said after interrupting the event. And he added: “Person who renounces because he has an aspiration, he leaves.”
-There is still no new director for the DPS. Petro has not yet accepted Bolívar’s resignation, so he is still the holder of that department. But, according to the president, the new person who occupies the position will be the one who must rule.
Context. Gustavo Bolívar leads the left in the electoral surveys. But in the circle closest to the president they would prefer another candidate because they believe that Bolivar’s radicalism does the perfect candidate to lose the elections. They believe that, as happened in the last elections in Bogotá, I would not be able to build bridges towards the center they need to win. Petro’s coldness with Bolívar contrasts with his photos with Roy Barreras, another candidate near Petro, this week.
On Bolívar’s resignation to aspire to Petro’s Broad Front, I recommend this note.
