Luis Ángel Maté, the ‘Lince of Marbella’, became a true “fox” of the desert to achieve his first stage in the Titan Desert in the year of his debut, opening the party of the Kh7 team, since the Costaricle Andrey Amador, also exprofesional of the route, the red jersey of leader was embedded.
A double breakage in the chain of his bicycle was not an obstacle for me, 41 years and 16 seasons of a route cycling professional, the queen of this twentieth edition, the 90 km mountain day between Ait Ben Said and Tazlarte, with a slope of 1,328 meters of unevenness would be taken with honors.
A stage that also had the incentive of the 7 km stretch of bonus ascent with 1 minute that Andrey Amador took. The union between Maté and Amador made the strength to unseat the leadership of Segoviano Fran Herrero and take Luis León Sánchez in the general, this time ally of misfortune, as the Murcia suffered the breakage of the chain, and reached the finish line with more than 3 minutes late on its rivals.
Madness in descents
There were “2 stages”, to achieve bonus in the port and by the stage. Maté looked by throwing Andrey Amador at the climb, and then both joined for the Andalusian lynx to raise his arms in the finish line. He did it with a time of 3h.09.30, at an average of 28.49 km/hour, the same as Fran Herrero. 11 seconds crossed Amador with Oscar Pujol, while Luis León Sánchez lost more than 20 minutes.
A turn in the general, now with the Amador-Fran Herrero duo as star protagonists, called to play the Titan 2025. The Costa Rican will wear red in the fourth stage with 32 seconds on the Segovian and already with pujo more than 15 minutes.
The presence of the mountain port was key for the KH7 to display the strategy for the stage and the general, as Maté admitted.
“This stage came better with the long port, the clear goal was to launch Andrey and so it has been, we have started the port to the top so that my partner would achieve the bonus. Once I got pressed to look for the stage. We got both things, we are very happy,” Maté explained.
-The Andalusian admitted his improvement in the descents, which was key to winning the stage.
“You have to be completely crazy to go down with the Mountain Bike. I try to abstract, I try to think that I am doing well because the truth is impressive how they go down, the specialists have an incredible ability, impressive risks are taken, but well, little by little I am taking confidence,” he said.
Annabel Fisher took the stage and cut in the general
In the female duel, this time the best part was taken by the British Annabel Fisher, winner of the stage, preventing the third consecutive victory of the Madrid leader Pilar Fernández.
Fisher arrived outstanding at Tazlarte’s goal at 3h.55.48, while the Spanish gave 1 minute in the timed section and 2.11 in the finish line. A good cut of the British, which is now 2.55 in the general.
Fourth stage, pure desert
The fourth stage of the Titan Desert will be played this Sunday between Tazlarte and Tafrooukht, with a 104 km route and 554 meters of unevenness. Day that returns for its most classic paths and leaves the mountain.
Day of pure desert and first sector of the marathon stage in which Titans and Titanas will have to pull self -sufficiency to use without assistance or the usual comforts of the camp.
