It was the icon of his team; again excluded from a great
They left him out of the rounds of three weeks in 2024 and now of the turn. It was the icon of his team; again excluded from a big one.
For years, Bauke Mollema was the main reference of Trek in rounds in stages and classic levels, collecting prestigious triumphs such as Lombardia or fractions in Tour and Tour. But the last years that changed.
Not only because the Dutchman was no longer at his best level, but because the team “lost confidence” in him, he said at the time. That was when they left him without rounds of three weeks for the first time in a decade and a half, in 2024.
Six times in the top 10 of the three large, Mollema became a trek banner, until the signings began to accumulate in the template. Since then he lost preponderance and did not hide his disappointment.
But by 2025 I hoped to return to one of the three most important races. In March he told Wielerflits that he dreamed of the turn: “For now I have options to be selected and that is my goal. I want to wrap Giulio Ciccone in the mountains and Pedersen in his sprints,” he said.
He did not succeed
That will not be possible and the “tulip” must look at the competition on TV. Of course, seeing Lidl Trek selection, it is understood that there are people with a lot of level, in addition to the fact that not even the leader Ciccone will have a lot of support in a block where Mads Pedersen is also.
The reality is that Mollema will hang the bike at the end of 2026 and if he still dreams of running again one of the greats will depend on watting that seems not to have or a miracle, because his last presence in such a test was in 2023.
At the moment, its record holds 23 participations between rotation, tour and back, with a podium in the Spanish round as the best result.
