With Pedro Gómez there is a rare case, it has merits to be exalted to the fame of Dominican sport, in two disciplines.
*
A defender of the third virtuous base, Pedro stood out both in amateur baseball and softball.
*
The native of Santiago, is the only athlete who has conquered gold medals in two different disciplines, in the history of the Central American and Caribbean games.
*
Gomez reaped his first golden medal, when the Dominican Republic was crowned champion in the baseball of the Central Americans and the Caribbean of Havana, in 1982.
*
Four years later, at the Santiago 86 games, Pedro was the first base of the Dominican softball squad and the gold medal was hung.
*
We saw Pedro play a lot of and good ball with the Mother and Master Catholic university.
*
He won the 1977 and 1979 batting leaders with the university students and went to the national Games and won the most valuable player award.
*
That did, that the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo was interested in its services, where it remained for 17 years and conquered 5 batting titles.
*
In 1982 he was selected baseball player of the year, for his formidable performance in Havana, where he was the best batter of a team that stood out for his pitching.
*
When his arm was injured and moved to the initial, he dedicated himself to softball, with a prolonged permanence of 26 seasons, of which in 15 he was national team.
*
He was part of the Dominican Republic baseball team that was at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1984.
*
Gomez was in 4 Central American games and in the same number of Pan American.
*
His beginnings in baseball were in Moca, so many thought it was, “dry, shaken and measured by a good drawer.”
*
But, his birth was on November 19, 1958 in Santiago, where he was baptized as Pedro Felipe and surnames Gómez and Taveras.
*
It was an impeccable Fildor in the third base and with the Madero one of the most difficult outs.
*
But, hearing the council of Duarte, he took advantage of time, achieving the academic degree as a business administrator.
*
It could be exalted in baseball and softball, but the Pavilion of the Fame of Dominican sport, immortalized him as softball.
