Governor Ignacio “Nacho” Torres headed this Friday the reopening of the Chubut Government house, an act that brought together mayors, former governors, legislators and representatives from different sectors of the State and civil society.
“Today is a very important day for all Chubutenses,” Torres said at the beginning of his speech. He thanked the presence of institutional authorities and referents, and dedicated a few words to his partner: “I want to also thank my life partner, Ornella, who hopefully everyone could have a partner like the one who gave me life, who is also an intellectual author of this idea of claiming our history.”
The president highlighted the need not to forget the recent past of the province: “The peoples who do not claim their history and who do not know their history, are peoples who do not learn from their mistakes, and if we do not learn from mistakes it is very difficult to get ahead.”

Torres also explained that the new configuration of the building seeks to “bureaucratize, expedite, digitize but also open the doors to the entire Chubutense people to recognize our history.” Within that framework, he announced the opening of two courtyards: “One that claims and recognizes our resources, our flora, our fauna, how proud it puts us all Chubutenses, and another that claims democracy.”
Regarding the latter, he clarified: “Logically we omit to those who usurped power at a very dark moment of our nation. And I say this because, unfortunately, there are many who relativize that dark moment, and that patio of democracy under any point of view could have the names of those who usurped power.”

With an emphatic tone, he referred to the fire that destroyed the headquarters in December 2021: “Whoever undermines the heritage of all Chubutenses is a criminal, and it does not matter where he comes from: he has to pay the consequences. And those who are now convicted of having set fire to this Government House will not only have a judicial conviction, but will have the social condemnation of all the Chubutenses of good.”
Finally, he called on unity: “We can be the generation that shows the entire Argentine nation that when we have enough courage to sit with someone who does not think like us, things happen.” And he concluded: “This house, which witnessed very difficult moments, believe me that it will also witness a very different future, a promising future, where we will be able to move forward inflating the chest with deep pride and always raising above any political flag partisan political flag of our dear flag of the province of Chubut.”
