There are just under 10 months and the time has come: Audi will enter Formula 1 as an official team. In the background, people are working hard so that the adventure begins with good foot, and to keep it on the right track, Audi has changed the structure of the team. In the new structure, Mattia Binotto has assumed a new role. The former Ferrari team leader was so far technical head and head of operations, but has left those positions.
Binotto is now responsible for the general development of the Audi Formula 1 car by 2026. The Italian has received the commission to optimize the alignment between the chassis and the motor train. According to the German manufacturer, Binotto has to do so by adjusting the existing processes so that the development of technology and the different departments of the organization are more efficient.
Until now, the chassis and the engine were supervised by different responsible, now everything depends on Binotto. It is not an easy task, since Sauber has headquarters in Hinwil (Switzerland) and Neuberg an der Donau (Germany), while a development center in England is also being built. So it depends on Binotto to make sure that all venues work well.
The brand new team leader, Jonathan Wheatley, is now solely responsible for the ins and outs of competition operations. Together, Wheatley and Binotto must manage Sauber’s transformation into the Audi factory equipment.
The F1 project depends on Audi Formula Racing GmbH and that branch has undergone new changes. The CEO Adam Baker leaves, completely eliminating that position. The experienced engineer Christian Foyer is the new head of operations and will focus on the development of the hybrid motor train. The technical chief is Stefan Dreyer, who will also assume the role of spokesman.
