Sergio Pérez’s name continues to monopolize the stage of Formula 1 despite not running this year and, although some media waited for his appointment within the Cadillac team in the last event of the weekend of the Miami GP, the Mexican’s options are open to more than one team as Motorsport.com already reported.
Czech Pérez has held advanced conversations with Cadillac, but also other teams such as Alpine and Mercedes have had an interest in having Mexican services for the 2026 season, although each option depends on some factors.
Alpine and Mercedes Two real options for Sergio Pérez?
In the case of Alpine it is not the first time that the name of Sergio Pérez arises. In the past, when the team was still called Renault, the Mexican was one of the favorites to take one of the seats, but that did not crystallize, although on the Latin American website a photo was leaked where he appeared with a poster where he said “Renault” as the selected team.
Now, Alpine is in a restructuring process after the changes in the board of the last two years, the most recent of them the departure of Oliver Oakes with Flavio Briatore assuming the functions of Team Chief. The Italian seeks a significant amount of budget and, currently, with the rise of Franco Colapinto by five races he has assured the support of new sponsors, a situation that could be replicated with Czech Pérez in case of reaching an agreement.
Although some sponsors of Sergio Pérez had already decided to leave the careers before the crisis with Red Bull, the Mexican retains a significant number of personal support including that of Carlos Slim Domit, a member of the family that occupies the 19th position in the Ranking of Forbes billionaires.
For now, the phase with Alpine is found in initial conversations, just like Mercedes. In the case of the German firm a movement of pilots is needed, specifically the departure of George Russell. Toto Wolff, head of the German team has shown sympathy in the past for Pérez highlighting his work in development, but also as a faithful teammate.

However, the situation in silver arrows is not so simple and everything depends on Max Verstappen. If the Dutchman decides not to continue with Red Bull until his 2028 contract, it is understood that Christian Horner has examined George Russell’s option as a possible replacement, this would leave a vacant seat in Mercedes.
In case Verstappen emigrates Aston Martin, Wolff would be interested in Sergio Pérez’s services to become an escudero of Andrea Kimi Antonelli. The Mexican has already demonstrated his value when helping his partner as he did with Verstappen in 2021 against Lewis Hamilton.
The Cadillac option is still standing. The American team knows the Mexican potential to help develop cars, as it did in Sauber and Force India/Racing Point, in addition to the economic support and fans base in the United States.
However, any of these three options is yet to be defined. Contrary to what some media say, Sergio Pérez has not signed a contract with Cadillac.
