The initiative was supported by the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service, Senapred, and the Citrid Risk and Disaster Reduction Program of the University of Chile.

With an active participation of the student body and a deep reflection on the subject, on April 22, 2025 it was carried out the session of “Risk Management in Emergencies and Disasters”, within the course “Introduction to the Medical Profession“This initiative is part of the” First Aid, Vital Signs and Risk Management “module and will be repeated on May 27 and July 8.

The activity was carried out in person at the Magna Aula of the South Campus of the Faculty of Medicine and was attended by teachers Viviana Ulloa, Silvia Rojas, Miguel Bravo, Claudia Muñoz and Jhonny Acevedo, of the Department of Primary Care and Family of our campus. Regarding the initiative, the professor in charge of the course (PEC) and deputy director of the Disaster Risk Reduction Program, Citrid, of the University of Chile, Viviana Ulloa, stressed that “this is a curricular innovation, since for the first the medical are being trained in this area, marking a milestone in the projection of public health and health services.”

Among the main speakers of the highlighted the Geographer Jessica RomeroMember of Senapred, who delivered essential knowledge in the field of risk management applied to the health area. “I loved the reception of students, there was a lot of interest in the identification of risks and how to prepare a management plan in this regard,” he said, adding that this information is very present today in the communities.

For its part, Ricardo Ortega, also a member of Senapred, He pointed out that, as a National Disaster Prevention and Response Service, “it is always an opportunity to strengthen this link that we have with research centers such as Citrid, which helps us enhance the transmission of knowledge about disaster risk.”
