After several days of public absence, Former Vice President Germán Vargas Lleras reappeared on social networks showing recovery signals after recent brain surgery. The procedure was carried out on April 23 at the Santa Fe Foundation in Bogotá.
The neurosurgical intervention was previously scheduled and announced by the clinic itself through a statement signed by the corporate medical director, Adolfo Llinás. In this it was reported that the politician was in good condition after the operation. The dissemination application of the medical part was made by Vargas Lleras himself, who for years has faced various health challenges.

This Wednesday, The former Vice President shared a photograph on his Instagram account where he appears smiling with his daughter, Clemencia Vargas, and his grandson Agustín. Although the date of its medical discharge has not been officially confirmed, the publication indicates that it is already outside the hospital and continues its recovery at home.
The political leader has gone through a complex medical history in recent years. At the beginning of April 2025, he underwent another surgery at a Bogotá clinic to remove a screw on his knee, installed after a bicycle accident in May 2022. At that time, a fall while pedaling on Duitama roads caused multiple fractures in the femur and hip, as well as a serious knee injury.

After several physiotherapy sessions, Vargas Lleras publicly reported that his recovery process was long and painful. He even traveled to the United States in search of surgical correction, after qualifying the initial operation as poorly performed. “Recovery has been hell, but in this life everything must be overcome,” he wrote at the time.
The health of the former vice president has been tested on more than one occasion. In 2003, he suffered the loss of several fingers from one hand for an attack with a bomb book when he was a senator. Over the years, he has also dealt with diagnoses such as meningioma, hepatic cyst, appendicitis and a ball in the neck.
