Waiting for the extension, they do not know whether they will attend the residence / the day
A known story for those who are and were part of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the UNLP.
Through a public letter supported by students who are ending the period of mandatory final practice (PFO), an extended situation was visible: for a matter of dates, students run out of the possibility of registration to the residences system. But this is a problem that has been displayed for a long time.
“Due to a poor organization by the institution, the previous year we had many conflicts with lack of quotas in hospitals in the city of La Plata to be able to perform our PFO rotations in a time and form, and get to take this year the exam to enter the residences system,” he raised in the note that circulates these days. “Despite this situation, there are many who decided to make the sacrifice – economic as emotional – to move to other cities to be able to finish this formation, whose responsible entity is the UNLP that could not guarantee us a place,” he continued.
The students, after finishing the course, begin the period of the PFO. Once they finish it, they can register in the residences system, the final stage of the race.
What happens in this case is that the final date of PFO is after the registration of residences, which would cause a lag and in the worst case, a lost year.
“In February of this year, the dates of the final exams of our practice were published, leaving us outside (for only one week) of the possibility of registering to the residences system, being that we end our rotation on 05/16/2025 and that same day closes the registration,” said the student.
In this scenario, the students requested “months” a meeting with the PFO Secretariat. The answer was that if from the Ministry “they granted an extension for the delivery of documentation, the ‘summative’ could be advanced to 05/16 being that the original date granted by them was 05/29 so that we can register.”
On the days of the decisive instance, students are already waiting for a decision about their future.
