One more year, with the arrival of spring and the increase in temperatures, the Rivas City Council has disseminated a series of recommendations among citizens to avoid the proliferation of the Tigre mosquito. It is a small -sized insect, between 5 and 7 millimeters, black, with white stripes in the abdomen and legs, and with the head and thorax crossed longitudinally by a white line.
The Tigre mosquito is activated in heat times, from April to November, mainly, and can transmit viral diseases such as dengue, zika, yellow fever and chikungunya. That is why, from the Department of Public Health, a series of recommendations to be followed in the courtyards, gardens, plots, terraces and the like, to prevent their presence:
– Remove from outside all objects that can accumulate water: potato plates, ashtrays, cubes, toys; or turn them around to avoid being filled with rainwater.
– In case you can not remove or turn them (containers for collection of the air conditioning condensation and animal drinking fonders, for example), they will have to empty them and clean them several times a week.
– Avoid any irregularity in the terrain in the open that can accumulate water.
– Avoid excessive irrigation that creates flooded areas.
– The drains and gutters must remain clean and free of water.
– Cover the holes from the trunks of the trees with sand.
-The pools must be maintained in good hygienic-sanitary condition or remain totally empty.
The Tigre mosquito has great capacity to reproduce in the urban environment. 80% of breeding areas are in homes. The female puts the eggs in places that, even if they are dry, are likely to flood or in any small container containing water.
