Millena Brandão, a Brazilian children’s actress known for her participation in the Netflix Tuna series, died on Friday, May 2 at age 11 at the Grajaú General Hospital in São Paulo, after having suffered multiple heart stoppages.
The official cause of his death has not been determined, according to his parents, Thays and Luiz Brandão.
According to his mother’s statements to the Brazilian media G1, the first symptoms appeared on April 24.
“He had a headache, but he could walk and talk. The doctor said it was Dengue, but he did not have any exam. He sent us back home with Dipirona,” said Thays Brandão.
In the following days, Millena presented intense legs in the legs, drowsiness and loss of appetite.
On April 26, the family returned to the hospital due to the aggravation of the symptoms, but was sent home again.
Subsequently, on April 28, Millena lost knowledge in the bathroom of her home after dinner.
Her parents urgently brought her to the Maria Antonieta Medical Center, where she regained consciousness momentarily.
“He put his hand to the head and shouted in pain,” his mother recalled.
Although a test ruled out the contagion by COVID-19, an urinary infection was diagnosed and was medicated.
The next day, his condition worsened and was admitted to the hospital. The morning of April 30 suffered cardiac arrest.
“Her lips put on purple. Then they revived her and intubated her. From that day, she woke up again,” Thays told G1.

“It got worse, he had two to three heart strikes per day. In total he had 13 strikes. He had never had something like that. One day he had seven respiratory strikes. Sometimes they massaged him and other times they applied discharges with the defibrillator,” said his mother.
Media like The Sun reported that the total number of heart strikes would have reached 21, although this figure was not confirmed by the family.
Finally, doctors declared Millena Brandão with brain death.
“I said that if we let his little heart stop on his own, we were going to suffer more, and she too. Then we asked to turn off the machines,” said his mother.
On Saturday, May 3, Thays Brandão announced his daughter’s death through an Instagram post, next to an image of Millena with Angel wings and an aura.
“An open letter to my little girl. On May 2 we lost our girl, but I am sure that he is in the arms of our almighty father and in a beautiful place to play. The memories that we live together will remain in my memory and I will never forget your joy, which infected everyone around you.”
In the same message he added: “My girl, I miss you more and more for not having you here, and I know that I will miss you even more in the days come. You were the light in our lives and I know that from above you will continue to take care and illuminate our lives. I will love you forever, and you will always be in my heart. I love you, my girl.”
The young actress was recognized for her work in the soap opera The childhood of Romeo and Julieta and in the production of Netflix Tiedia.
In his Instagram account he accumulated about 196,000 followers, where his family communicated the news of his death.
“The pain is immense. What sadness. As a mother, my heart bleeds,” said a user in response to the ad.
So far, doctors have not confirmed the definitive cause of death. “The doctors still did not say what really happened to my daughter or what killed her,” said Thays Brandão.
