Spoiler Alert: This article contains important spoilers of “Thunderbolts*”, currently on the billboard.*
After years of uncertainty and a streak of premieres with mixed results, Marvel Studios finally seems to have found a new direction. ‘Thunderbolts*’, the latest MCU commitment, has not only revitalized the enthusiasm of the fans, but has generated a huge stir for its postcredit scene, which feels the foundations for the next epic events of the cinematographic universe: ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ y ‘4 Fantastic: first steps’.

What happens in the postcredit scene of ‘Thunderbolts*’?
The most relevant postcredit scene – the second, to be precise – reveals that the Thunderbolts have settled in the old headquarters of the Avengers, now renamed the ‘Watchtower’. This name change is not less: it symbolizes that these characters, known for being “anti-heroes”, have been officially reintroduced to the world as the new Avengers.
The team consists of Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Guardian Red (David Harbor), John Walker/US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) and Sentry (Lewis Pullman). The latter seems to be dealing with his other half: the dreaded void. While the characters get used to their new role as the protectors of the planet, the camera leads us to space … and there happens the unexpected: a very familiar ship enters the earth’s orbit from another dimension.
The Watchtower alarm is activated by detecting the arrival. What is heard below is the iconic music of the fantastic four, confirming that the ship belongs to Marvel’s first family.
How do you connect the postcredit scene of ‘Thunderbolts*’ with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘4 Fantastic: first steps’?
This brief moment opens two key narrative lines for the future of the MCU. On the one hand, it is confirmed that the new Avengers and the Sam Wilson/Captain America (Anthony Mackie) team – who appeared in the postcredits of ‘Brave New World’ with Falcon (Danny Ramírez) – are in legal conflict due to the use of the name and logo of the Avengers.
This suggests that in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ we will see a confrontation or an alliance between both features, probably before the threat of Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.), who is rumored will be the central villain.
On the other hand, the appearance of the Fantastic Four ship directly links with ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’, which will be released this summer. It is not clear if the scene occurs before or after that movie events. Are the fantastic four arriving from his universe because his was destroyed by Galactus? Or is it Doom who has stolen a ship to cross the main universe?

How was the post -crushed scene of ‘Thunderbolts*’?
The director of ‘Thunderbolts*’, Jake Schreier, recently revealed that this scene was a last minute addition. In an interview with ‘Comic Book’, he explained:
“The details of how that post -crushed scene was defined quite late. It was filmed perhaps … are they a month ago? They are very good in that there.”
The most surprising thing is that Schreier did not direct this scene. Although it was present at the filming, the scene was made on the set of another production that is just beginning: probably ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. This type of late integration is a tradition in Marvel Studios. A clear example was the famous Shawarma scene in ‘The Avengers’, recorded after the world premiere.
Schreier said he was honored that this sequence has been included in his film. Although he did not leave his direct creative vision, he explained that the narrative climax of his film already anticipated this transition: the passage of “dirty squad” to a team with true global weight.
