More than 80 students belonging to different educational institutions in Carabobo participated in the second phase of the Venezuelan Astronomy Olympiad (OVA). The event was organized by the Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology (MINCYT), together with the Ministry of Popular Power for Education.
The activity was carried out at the Simón Bolívar Robinsonian Technical School, in Naguanagua. The vice minister attended for the communalization of science for the production of Miningt, Danmarys Hernández; Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Government of Carabobo and the mayor of the jurisdiction, Ana González.
“Carabobo is among the first five states with the greatest number of students who classified in the first phase. More than 80 young people presented the test of the second phase of these Olympics, which are part of the national Program Scientific Semilleros,” said the Vice Minister during her visit to the educational institution.
Venezuelan Astronomy Olympiad
Secondary education students participated in these Olympics, which are stimulating for the growth of youth and logical thinking. “Young people will begin entering the world of astronomy and sciences associated with space.”
This second phase sought to select the team that will represent the Carabobo state in the national stage of the Venezuelan Astronomy Olympics. On that day, 1,440 students classified nationwide will compete.
“Astronomy Olympics, in addition to being an axis for the incentive of these orientations in the space sciences, will allow to strengthen the national astronomical agenda,” he said.
Danmarys Hernández said that logical and critical thinking, plus the use of the scientific method, reinforce the knowledge acquired at different pedagogical moments. Therefore, they encourage young people the detailed study, and bring them closer to science and technology.
Venezuela has the Astronomy Research Center, an entity attached to the Ministry of Popular Power for Science and Technology. Also with the Bolivarian Agency for Space Activities, Rective Institutions of the Special Sciences Aerials. According to Hernández, these institutions have dedicated themselves to the training of students who joined the scientific seedbed.
