When a young woman is possessed by a relentless demonic entity, two priests with very distant pass must join forces to save her. One is a veteran exorcist (Al Pacino), tormented by its own failure in an earlier case. The other (Dan Stevens), a young priest, fight against his doubts and a faith that wobbles. Together they will enter a ritual that will test their beliefs, their sanity and their lives.
The story is based on a real case, Emma Schmidt’s exorcism that took place in the US. The script is written by director David Midell, together with Enrico Natale.
Emma Schmidt’s real case
In 1928, in an Iowa convent, one of the most terrifying exorcisms ever occurred took place. Emma Schmidt, a woman with a life marked by darkness, was subjected to a 23 -day ritual in which she faced demonic forces that tormented her from childhood.
