Kanye West, one of the most influential and controversial figures of contemporary music, has re -generated all kinds of criticism, this time for deeply personal reasons. His new musical launch, entitled Cousins, not only surprised his audience for his content, but unleashed a wave of reactions by including explicit confessions about his past.
The song, shared next to a series of publications in its X profile (formerly Twitter), became a trend a few hours after its premiere. In it, the artist refers to experiences of his childhood that includes an alleged incest with a cousin, who currently meets a life sentence for a violent crime.
It was West himself who contextualized the theme with a message that accompanied with fragments of the song. In his publication, he confessed that during his childhood he discovered pornographic material at home and that, after that finding, he began to experience inappropriate situations with his cousin. The artist described that these experiences began when he was just six years old, and explained how access to this type of content influenced his behavior. In his message, he expressed feelings of guilt and confusion about what happened, noting that for years he dragged the consequences of that unresolved episode.
“This song is called Cousins and deals with my cousin, who is in the jail sentenced to life imprisonment for a pregnant woman, a few years after she told her that we were no longer going to look at dirty magazines together,” he wrote. The most controversial fragment reached the end of its publication, where Kanye shared a direct and explicit confession about the acts he starred in his childhood. “My name is Ye and I made my cousin sex0 until I was 14 years old. Tweet sent,” he says.
The publication adds to a series of controversial episodes that have marked West’s career, who has long made public their personal and emotional struggles, many times through art. Until now, the artist has not offered more statements about it.
