Lately, Lorde has remained in full preparation of his next album (Virgin), And his outfit in Met Gala 2025 has added to this creative process.
The singer wore a set that consisted of a floating top that challenged gravity, an American and a pencil skirt with corset effect. The bold outfit was tailored by American fashion designer Thom Browne – recognized by his male style – and contributed clues of the recent androgynous image Lorde is projecting. In an interview with Emma Chamberlain, Lorde said that the outfit “represents where he is in terms of gender”, expressing that the outfit made her feel “a man and a woman” at the same time.
At the same time, the clothing also represents a key track on the “contents” of its next album, Virgin. “It is a kind of Easter egg,” said the neozyous singer with Chamberlain on the carpet. “Everything will be revealed.”
The outfit has not been the only clue that Lorde has shared with the public, since on April 30, the singer sent an email to her fans where she explained that her new work is an exercise to try to see herself “until the end.”
Lorde’s first album in four years, Virginwhich meets the tradition of a four -year intermediate for each of his deliveries, he plans to leave on June 27. This LP will be under the production of Jim-E Stack and the same singer. In addition, it contains contributions from Dev Hynes, Daniel Nigro, Fabiana Palladino, Andrew Anged and Buddy Ross. “I am proud of this album and, at the same time, it is afraid,” Lorde added in his email. “There is nowhere to hide. I think what frees us is to put our deepest parts in music.”
The only advance of the project to date has been ‘What Was That’, the main single of the album that was published last month and refers to his time of Melodrama with the hypnotic Synth-pop sound. The first live presentation of the theme was held at a meeting with fans in New York City, in the Washington Square Park, and in a matter of a short time, the single has climbed first place on the list, an event that did not happen from its debut album, Royals.
In a recent interview with DocumentLorde commented that he had deep reflections about his life while composing the album: “I had returned from London to New York after this period of great turbulence in my personal life. I was single, but, I also faced my bodily problems and I began to feel that my genre was extended a little. Returning to my house and feeling this great wave of pain, I could just think: What was all that?”
