Ankara – Turkey Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan launched a bomb on Friday, publicly revealing that he survived an attempt to murder during his mandate as Chief of Intelligence of the country.
“We were physically subjected to an attempt to murder, in addition to poisoning ourselves and we also received treatment,” Fidan told the Turkish television channel 24 TV during an exclusive interview, referring to himself in plural rhetorically.
“In addition to that, we have constantly faced defamations and similar things.”
Fidan added that the attempt took place four or five years ago when he was head of the National Intelligence Organization of Türkiye (MIT).
“Four or five years have passed,” said Fidan, adding: “They administered a high dose of arsenic and mercury … later it was detected in the tests.”
-He refused to provide more details when asked who could be behind the attempt, but implied that he took place abroad.
“Well, let’s not get in details.” Those issues occurred outside, ”said Fidan. The enemies are not only inside, but everywhere.
Fidan also described the attempt “as part of the political struggle.”
Fidan directed MIT from 2010 to June 2023, when he assumed the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye. Fidan maintained a fairly discreet profile during his mandate in the MIT.
The declaration marks the first public revelation on an attempt to murder against the Chief of Intelligence of Türkiye.
