North Korea launched on Thursday (08.05.2025) several short -range missiles towards the Sea of Japan, called the Eastern Sea in the Korean Peninsula, reported the South Korean Ensemble Staff (JCS), which believes that it was Balistic projectiles.
The releases were detected by the South Korean army at 08:10 local time (23:10 GMT on Wednesday).
“In preparation against possible additional releases, our forces have reinforced surveillance and alert measures, and are closely sharing information related to the apparent North Korean ballistic missiles with the authorities of the United States and Japan, maintaining a state of total preparation,” added the JCS.
It was the first known ballistic activity executed since last March 10, when Pyongyang fired several ballistic missiles hours after the US and South Korea began an annual combined military exercise.
-Tensions in the Korean Peninsula have intensified in recent months, as the North Korean president Kim Jong-un continues to accelerate the development of his nuclear and missile program, and the supply of weapons and troops to support the Russian war against Ukraine.
The launch of Thursday occurred one day after North Korean state media said that Kim urged to boost the production of artillery projectiles, in the midst of their increasingly deep alignment with Moscow.
After denying his participation in the war for months, North Korea confirmed last month for the first time that he had sent combat troops to help Russia in the reconquest of parts of the Kursk region, which had fallen to a Ukraine Sapress incursion last year.
