The Director of the National Emergency System (SINAE), Leandro Palomeque, offered data from Executive Tower, headquarters of the Presidency, and reported that between November 2024 to April 2025 the National Fire Department intervened at 1,554 opportunities.

Of that figure 1,30 were for field , 293 of Monte and 31 combined.

In total 14 thousand 237 rural hectares were burned, he said.

Palomeque indicated that the balance evidenced higher compared to the 2023-2024 period. The number of interventions increased, from 900 to more than 1,500.

The departments with the most affected surface were Salto, Artigas and Canelones.

The largest amount of interventions were recorded in Canelones (505), Montevideo (345) and in San José (207).

For her part, the president of the Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (Inumet), Madeleine Renom, explained that the period the rainfall deficit was greater in the northern and south regions of the country, and that January was the most critical month in that aspect.

He said the temperatures were above normal, with marked anomalies in the northeast and southern region of the country during February and March.
