Havana- Miguel Díaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, lamented the powerful explosion in the Port Shahid Rajaei, near Bandar Abbas, which left at least 8 dead and more than 700 injured, according to the latest official reports.
Through his official account in X, the Cuban president expressed his condolences to President Masaud fishshkian, the government and people of Iran, as well as the relatives of the deceased and wounded in the incident.
«We have known the news of the strong explosion in the Iranian port of Shahid Rajaei. We extended condolences to President @drpezeshkian, to the people and government of Iran, as well as the relatives of the deceased and injured in the incident ».
The explosion, registered this Saturday, originated in containers with chemical materials stored in the port, according to preliminary investigations. The expansive wave collapsed buildings, broke glass into a radius of kilometers and generated a column of visible smoke from distant distances.
Cuba and Iran maintain historical ties for cooperation in health, energy and technology, in addition to sharing critical positions against unilateral sanctions.
Extinguish fire embers due to explosion in Puerto de Iran
Tehran-Firefighters, supported by helicopters and airplanes, extinguish the embers of the fire caused by the explosion in a merchant ship while downloading at the Shahid Rajaei dock, (south) where they recommended work.
The ship transported chemicals when the explosion occurred, of unknown origin, which killed 10 people, wounded 800 and destroyed containers, according to the official report, which sets the origin of the catastrophe in the early hours of this Saturday.
Immediately the official sources refrain from issuing details on the causes of the explosion.
However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that his country’s security services are on alert due to “previous sabotage attempts and murders to provoke our legitimate response,” evening allusion to Israel’s actions.
