Fifty years after ‘In the patio’ of Triana: thus one of the best Spanish rock albums was forged that could end up forgotten | Musical stories

On April 14, 1975, Triana’s album was published. I had no name. It was illustrated by the painting of a Sevillian corral of the Cristo de Burgos square, designed by the artist Máximo Moreno. Today, that album is known as ‘El Patio’ and is considered one of the best rock albums. And yet, he could end up forgotten.

Triana’s first liquidation with the record company was devastating. They had sold 19 or 20 albums. “Fuck, are you going to find out? We said. And Jesus tells me,” they are going to find out in forty years, you’ll see. ” Fifty years have passed and Jesús de la Rosa was right. Although it was not necessary to wait so long.

To remember the origins of the and the circumstances that surrounded the recording of ‘El Patio’, we visited Eduardo Rodríguez Rodway, the only living member of Triana. Eduardo is going to turn 80 and spends the days in the Caños de Meca (Cádiz), between the Pinares de la Breña and the Cape of Trafalgar. On the porch table of his house there are some vessels of beer, the record compilation, ‘Eternal Triana’ and a copy of the book ‘Through air’, which Eduardo has written with Pablo Selma and also accompanies us the hours we share talking about the history of the group.

Where to start? At the end of the sixties and just 22 years old, Eduardo Rodríguez Rodway already triumphed with the clowns. During that stage, it occasionally agreed on stage with the battery Juan José Palacios, ‘Tele’, which the Payos hired for some galas. Another of those days of success and fame, during the recording of a television program in the Plaza de España in Seville, a kid approached, – “Hi, Eduardo” -, and was presented. It was Jesús de la Rosa. He asked him to pass the guitar and sang a couple of songs. Without them knowing it, Triana was already forged.
