Pakistan announced this Saturday (03.05.2025) the “successful training launch of its Abdali weapons system”, a land-earth missile with a range of 450 kilometers, as part of the Indus year, in the middle of a climate of very tense relations due to an attack on the Kashmir administered by the Indian neighbor and ongoing military exercises between both parties.
The declared objective of the training launch was to guarantee the operational preparation of the troops and validate crucial technical parameters of the missile, according to a statement from the Pakistani army. These parameters included the Advanced Abdali navigation system and its improved maneuverability characteristics, according to the text.
The training exercise was attended by senior officers. The Pakistan government and the heads of the Armed Forces expressed their full confidence in the operational preparation and technical capacity of Pakistan’s strategic forces, highlighting their role to guarantee a minimum credible deterrence and safeguard national security in the face of any aggression.
Growing tension
This missile test occurs after several days of intense military activity by Pakistan and India. According to Pakistani security sources, the Army has been doing large -scale exercises to demonstrate its preparation to counteract any aggression. Simultaneously, the Indian Navy has reinforced its presence in the Arabic Sea, within its exclusive economic zone, performing various shooting exercises off the coast of Gujarat, very close to Pakistan.
These intense military exercises and the subsequent missile launch by Pakistan coincide with a moment of deep tension in the relationship between the two nuclear powers, which cross one of their worst bilateral crises in years after the attack in the Kashmir administered by India on April 22 and the subsequent reciprocal diplomatic actions.
India accuses Pakistan of being behind the terrorist attack that killed 26 tourists, although he has not shown evidence of this link. The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, said they will pursue “even the confines of the earth” to those responsible. Pakistan flatly denies any role in the massacre.
