The Pavilion of Mexico at the 19th International Exhibition of Architecture of the Biennale Di Venezia 2025 presents “Chinampa Veneta”, a proposal that explores the ancestral wisdom of the Xochimilco Chinampas as a regenerative design model applicable to contemporary contexts, inspired even in the theater of the Mondo de Aldo Rossi.

A multidisciplinary collective
The project is led by the Chinampa Veneta collective, composed of Estudio Ignacio Urquiza and Ana Paula de Alba, María Marín de Buen, Ilwt, Locus, Lucio Usobiaga Hegewisch & Nathalia Muguet, and Pedro & Juana, along with an extensive group of collaborators with various specialties in design, architecture, landscape and agriculture.
Regeneration through agroforestry
Nathalia Muguet and Lucio Usobiaga, members of the group, focus their work on the regeneration of spaces through agroforestry practices, developing a model of medicinal agroforestry in the Chinampas of Xochimilco. His experience covers various regions and focuses on promoting an ecological and equitable food system, valuing the work of the peasants.
Conscious Design of Context
IUAPDA study, founded by Ana Paula de Alba and Ignacio Urquiza, seeks to generate design and architecture congruent with the current economic, political, social and environmental context. Its practice is guided by the interaction between the object, the user and the context, using a media economy to design and build with the available resources.
space as interconnection
Locus, a transdisciplinary office based in Mexico City founded by Sana Frini and Jachen Schleich, conceives space as a place that emerges from the interaction between function, behavior and belonging. Your work includes regenerative and low environmental projects.
Graphic design for culture and architecture
Study María Marín de Buen specializes in the design of books, printed, websites and exhibition graphics for the cultural and architectural field, with an outstanding national and international career.
Chinampa Veneta: A dialogue between two worlds
For the Venice Biennial, Chinampa Veneta presents a series of Chinampas inside the Arsenale and a floating chinampa in La Laguna, inspired by the Aldo Rossi Mondo Theater. The project establishes a dialogue between the ancestral system of the Xochimilco Chinampas and the unique context of Venice.
