For its part, Real Madrid has issued A statement officiatedl in which he has paid tribute to the legend and has shown his regret for the loss:
“Real Madrid CF, its president and its Board of Directors deeply lament the death of Rafael Rullán, one of the great legends of Real Madrid and European basketball.
Real Madrid wants to express their condolences and love to their relatives, their peers and all their loved ones.
Rafael Rullán defended the Real Madrid shirt during 18 seasons. In those two decades, from 1969 to 1987, he won 3 European Cups, 4 intercontinental glasses, 1 European Recopa, 14 leagues, 9 Cups of Spain and 1 Super Cup of Spain.
Rafael Rullán was international with Spain on 162 occasions, and was part of the Spanish team that won the silver medal at the Eurobasket in Barcelona (1973).
Rafael Rullán has been linked to Real Madrid practically throughout his life, since he arrived with 15 years. In addition to 18 seasons as a player, he held different responsibilities as a delegate of the first team and director of the Sports Schools of the Real Madrid Foundation.
