Miami GP of F1, at risk of suspension due to the threat of thunderstorms

The Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix issued protocols that could cause the race to be suspended if there is ray threat before the race.

The race in Miami Gardens, around the Hard Rock stadium of the Miami Dolphins, is scheduled for 16.00 local time. However, given the threat of thunderstorms in the area, safety procedures as a precautionary measure have been launched.

In a statement from the FIA, the governing body of the sport, the following is stated: “The commissioners, exercising their power granted by articles 11.9.2.ay 11.9.3.n of the International Sports Code of the FIA, decide the following:

“According to local public security standards, there is the possibility that the career is suspended due to the risk of lightning in the circuit or in its surroundings, in order to facilitate that all personnel ‘refuge in the place’ in a relevant location.

“In this circumstance, for the safe and orderly development of the event, the following procedures will be applied:

“The race will be suspended in accordance with article 57 of the Sports Regulations, all cars must return to boxes and stop on the fast road as described in article 57.2.

“Once all cars have returned to the PIT Lane, the equipment will be informed through the official messaging system that cars must be pushed from the rapid lane and returned to the garages of the equipment.

“The doors of the garages must remain open until the opposite is indicated. To avoid any questions, any car that was in its garage at the time of suspension of the race, or that is displaced from the fast track to any other part of the PIT Lane without or before said instruction is given, will be arranged at the end of the cars of cars before the resumption in accordance with article 57.3 or 57.5 respectively.”

The heavy rains caused chaos in the Sprint race on Saturday, in which Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz suffered falls. And the F1 Academy race was suspended on Sunday due to the downpour.
