Brussels, May 5 (EFE) .- The European commission (EC) stressed on Monday that without the support that China lends to Russia, Moscow would not be able to continue the war of aggression against Ukraine “with the same force”, and stressed that Beijing “remains a key facilitator” of the Kremlin.
“China remains a key facilitator for the continuous war of aggression of Russia, so without the support of China to Russia, Russia would not be able to continue its war of aggression against Ukraine with the same force,” said the spokeswoman for CE Anitta Hipper during the institution’s daily press conference.
The spokeswoman spoke in that regard after being asked about the assistance of the president of China, Xi Jinping, to the military parade in Moscow on May 9 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army over Nazi Germany.
Hipper said that in the European Commission they have seen the information about Xi Jinping to Moscow, and recalled that China is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, “so it also has the responsibility of defending the United Nations Charter and the international order based on standards.”
Anyway, Hipper said that he does not correspond to the community executive to comment on the visit of the Asian president to Moscow “as such” and that today he had limited himself to specifying Brussels’s position on the support of countries to “aggressors.”
On the other hand, the commission spokesman, Olof Gill, was asked about the interview that the European Commission of Commerce, Maros Sefcovic, gave last week to the newspaper ‘Financial Times’.
In it, Sefcovic declared that the EU was willing to collaborate with the United States to help address the impact of Chinese exports.
“We believe that we can achieve a lot together, in particular the overcapacity of steel and aluminum working together in semiconductors, exceeding the dependence of critical raw materials,” Sefcovic told the British publication.
Olof Gill said today that the commission will not give details of the conversations on trade in progress between the United States and the European Union, but stressed that it is not about Washington and Brussels “to ally against China.”
“We are talking about addressing a problem that we have both identified as widespread in the global commercial system at this time: excess capacity. We believe it is an area in which we can work together, as in semiconductors,” Gill said. EFE
