Formula 1 is a cruel sport and Flavio Briatore is one of the men who best know how to play there, so last year Alpine brought it as an advisor, to clean the disaster in the French team (formerly called Renault) and put them on the right tracks to aspire to return to the top.
Among other Italian decisions, he fired 200 people from the team, closed the motor division for F1, he went down to Esteban Ocon a race before the end of the 2024 season and, before starting this season he brought Williams to Franco Colapinto from Williams.
The Argentine was placed last year as one of the most desired rookie pilots by several teams, after getting on the Williams FW46, replacing Logan Sarent, for the last 9 races last year, where he had a great start, adding points in two of his first four major awards, but blurring towards the end of the season, with a car without budget for spare parts and with many problems and with many problems.
Even so, the Buenos Aires is still placed as one of the promise pilots of Formula 1 and this Monday several European media, including Autosport, L’Equipe, Sky Sports, reported that Alpine is very likely to go down from the titular seat to the Australian Jack Doohan, to climb Collapint as Pierre Gasly’s partner, for the Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna (Imala).
Some reports indicate that Briatore would have already informed Doohan the decision, after the term of the Miami Grand Prix, although it is not clear (if the decision is made) the Australian will continue within the Alpine structure.
Doohan has been the target of rumors since Alpine signed Colapinto, at the beginning of the year, and many people close to the ocean pilot have affirmed that this has caused pressure, however, Jack has not put himself in a position in the first six major awards of the year.
Perhaps the most serious error (and that could have cost serious injuries) was the impact on Curve 1 of Suzuka, during free practice 1 of the Japan Grand Prix, where he tried to take it with the open DRs (because he had been able to achieve it in the simulator) and ended violently against the wall.
Although the rumors of this Monday point to Franco Colapinto, as will replace Doohan, other sources that indicate the Estonian Paul Aron, such as the one chosen to get on the Alpine in Imala. Aron was third place of the Formula 2 championship in 2024, and currently has the pilot position in the French team.
We will have to wait a few days to know the member of this new novel of Formula 1.
