The so -called progressivism suffered a hard setback in the Senate plenary, where transfuguism was being discussed into sixth debate. The plenary of that corporation made the decision to file that initiative and puts in trouble the historical pact already Gustavo Petro, which are on their way to consolidate the single left party.
The so -called transfuguism sought to eliminate existing sanctions when it goes from one party to another and that is why that initiative was key to progressivism.
After a file proposition of the Senator of the Paloma Valencia Democratic Center, and an extensive debate in the Corporation, the plenary made the decision to accept the proposal of the congressman and the project shipwrecked.
55 senators for the yes, that is, in favor of the file, and 29 for the no. In this way this proposal is sinks once again and the penalties for double militancy are maintained.
“A new defeat for the historical pact, the Plenary of the Senate has just filed the constitutional reform of transfuguism. Win, ”said Senator Carlos Fernando Motoa, of radical change.
-Senator Carlos Meisel, from the Democratic Center, said that after the extensive debate the decision to vote against that initiative was made because he does not contribute to the strengthening of democracy.
“You cannot weaken democracy and there must be a solid militancy, that is clear,” he said.
Since the historical pact arrived to Congress, it has been tried to process this issue several times; For example, in the political reform that began its procedure, but which finally sank for several ‘micos’, such as guaranteeing the re -election of the current congress and allowing the leap of congressmen to ministries without any problem.
This new blow to Colombia’s left puts the idea of consolidating a unique party of that sector because they have enough differences that, apparently, are not easy to solve and transfuguism was a good way out for all sectors of progressivism.
During the debate, all sectors near the Petro government tried to justify the process of the initiative to achieve their passage to the Chamber, where they have the majorities, but failed to convince their colleagues.
