The University of León becomes since Thursday in the epicenter of reflection, debate and study on the great challenges of the agri -food sector within the framework of the youth Forum on Spanish agri -food systems organized by the United Nations Organization for Agriculture and Food (FAO).
An appointment in which the University of León has highlighted its commitment not only to quality training but also with sustainability the territory, “working so that the knowledge generated in our classrooms and laboratories reverses directly in the economic, social and environmental development of a province where the agri -food sector has a strategic weight.”
This was revealed by the Vice Chancellor for Inclusion, Equality and Social Projection, Raquel Domínguez, who highlighted the importance of creating spaces where young people contribute their vision, their creativity and provide innovative solutions “to face future challenges”.
Hence, according to the Vice Chancellor, the collaboration between the University of León and the FAO is increasing in recent years, through training and research projects and the implementation of a scholarship system for the impulse of studies related to the development of a more competitive and sustainable agri -food system.

An active collaboration with the FAO that also maintains the City of León, committed to sustainable development. This was highlighted by Mayor José Antonio Diez who recalled that the capital is part of the FAO green cities network, thanks to its commitment to green spaces, the promotion of ecological foods such as the urban gardens of La Candamia, and projects such as the zero kilometer routes that promote a more local and sustainable consumption model ”.
An international network that, as the mayor recalled, places León on the world map as a city committed to the objectives of sustainability and urban resilience. For all this, he highlighted the commitment of the City Council to continue working on projects that promote the sustainability of the territory.
The forum, which has as its scenario the Faculty of Veterinary, brings together more than 150 young experts, professionals and institutional representatives to discuss innovation, sustainability, youth leadership and new food policies.

Two days that, according to Clara Fernández, responsible for the Spanish chapter of the World Forum for Food, are structured around three thematic panels and two collaborative sessions. “We want to reflect on the future of the Spanish chapter and explore what new activities we can boost, always with youth as the protagonist,” he said.
The panels will address key issues such as innovation and sustainability in agri -food systems, the role of youth in the influence of food policies, and successful experiences of young people in the sector. “This meeting was born with the intention of gathering, sharing ideas and building new collaboration opportunities together,” he added, showing his desire that, as a result of this impulse, the results may also be presented at the FAO headquarters in Rome.
