The Municipal Group Left Gaditana has claimed the Gaditano City Council government team to celebrate a homeless day before the approval, in plenary session, of the II Social Inclusion Plan, which was presented to the homeless people table held, finally, at the end of last April.
The Councilor of Aig Helena Fernández denounces that the Councilor for Social Affairs, Pablo Otero, “has lied blatantly” by ensuring that a PSH day was held in 2023, since to date only two have been developed: one in 2015, with the then councilor of Adelante Ana Fernández at the head of the Delegation of Social Affairs, and another in the year 2021 Municipal Delegation. “In 2023 no day of homeless people was held. Such is so that the Social Inclusion Plan itself sets the celebration of the third day in 2027,” he says.
Thus, based on this, the left -wing coalition claims the celebration of that third day in upcoming dates in order to “address in common all aspects and contributions that we have made to the new plan, with the intention of agreeing everything between the municipal groups, the social entities and the groups involved, since at no time has this step taken”. Fernández considers this “commissioning” necessary to “the lack of updated data on the collective” and after verifying that the II Inclusion Plan “does not contemplate one of the most important measures”, such as a mental health team. “We demand a mental health team just like other cities have it,” and reminds the Bruno García government that the inclusion of this team was approved unanimously in the PSH days of 2021. “It is, without sweating, of the things that are most needed,” he emphasizes.
Likewise, the councilor points out that the Plan is not provided with economic endowment: “The figures shared by Pablo Otero correspond to the reform of the municipal shelter and the works of the future municipal reception center of Solitude Street, but there are no details of any side for campaigns and specific actions.”
-Fernández believes that the new plan “is not ambitious”, because “we were just given a document with objectives for organizations, groups and opposition itself to add contributions.” “They have collected,” he adds, “the initiatives that are already being made and the contributions we made in their day, but properly from the government team there is nothing, absolutely nothing.”
And at the same time he regrets that in the document the government of Bruno García has postponed the celebration of the homeless people table, passing every four months to every six months.
On the other hand, the mayor has shown her surprise with respect to the opening date that the government team has set of the transient accommodations of Setenil Street, in 2027. “If the center is ready and delivered since March 2024, how can they announce that they will inaugurate it in 2027?”. “What we ask, in line with what we demand in procasa in their day, is that the service is already taken to tender, so that, when the people who temporarily are using these accommodations abandon them to move to the reformed municipal shelter, already awarded and therefore have the necessary personnel.”
