The United Nations Secretariat has assured Thursday that the plan presented by Israel and the United States for the delivery of humanitarian aid to the population of the Gaza Strip “seems designed to control and restrict further supplies to the last calorie and the last grain of flour.”
“The general secretary has made it clear that the UN will not participate in any agreement that does not respect the humanitarian principles of humanity, impartiality, independence and neutrality,” said the deputy spokesman, Farhan Haq, in a press conference.
On Sunday, several United Nations and NGO offices that work in Gaza rejected a plan presented by Israel and the United States that aims to close the help distribution systems managed by the UN and its partners and that is done under conditions imposed by the authorities and the Israeli army.
The Israeli plan plans to build facilities managed by an international foundation with financing from philanthropic countries and organizations. The population can go to these centers once a week to receive a humanitarian aid package per family with sufficient goods for seven days.
