Caracas, May 9 (EFE) .- The NGO Criminal Forum encrypted in 894 political prisoners in Venezuelaaccording to a report released this Friday by that organization, which detailed that Among the detainees there are 72 people with dual nationality.
The amount is 12 prisoners less than in the report released on May 2, in which the organization computed 906 people imprisoned in the country for political reasons.
In this new count, the NGO indicated that The arrested are divided into 805 men and 89 womenof which 889 are adults and Five are teenagers between 14 and 17 years old.
As detailed by the Criminal Forum, the number of prisoners fell from 737 to 725, although the amount of military deprived of liberty remained in 169.
In addition, the NGO points out that from 2014 to date, a total of 18,346 “political arrests” have been carried out in the Caribbean nation.
-The majority of citizens, included in this counting, were arrested after the presidential elections of 2024, in which the National Electoral Council (CNE), controlled by Chavismo, proclaimed as the winner the current ruler of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, despite the complaints of “fraud” of the majority opposition, which defends the victory of his candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia.
This Friday, a group of activists and relatives of political prisoners in Venezuela asked the European Union (EU) to intermediate before the administration of Maduro to achieve the freedom of these people, including almost thirty with European nationalities.
The EU delegation in Caracas was the last stop of the so -called ‘global route for justice and freedom’ which, during this week, also included the Embassies of Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and Japan.
This route had the end, according to the organizers, “denounce the systematic violations of human rights and request international solidarity and diplomatic support.”
